    I came across this tip the other day for W98 and Me users. It said........

    Use this trick to accelerate memory access to your hard disk and achieve maximum speed when reading all your files . To do this. all you need to do is tune your Vcache. It won't cost a penny and only takes 2 minutes of your time.

    1. Click on Start, followed by Run....
    2. Type in sysedit and confirm by clicking OK.
    3. Select the file SYSTEM.INI in the listing which appears, go down to to the [vcache] section and type in the next 3 lines:

    MinFileCache =<value1>
    MaxFileCache =<value2>
    ChunkSize=512
    where value1 is 15% of RAM and value2 is about 25% of RAM.

    The article did not elaborate any further on this tip. Is it a worthwhile tip and what does it all mean?

    Kind regards,
    Pat

    15 & 25% seem way too low. The settings are usually 150 to 250% of your installed ram.

    Can do the same type of settings by going to the system icon in control panel->performance tab and adjusting the min & max there...

    You can try different setting till your blue in the face and will probably never be able to see, taste or feel and difference in performance...

    You are mixing up FileCache with the swap file!

    Please read Fine Tune Windows 98 > Improving Performance

    Yes, that also works for Me.
