HI a friend has AOL and says that he has an intermittant issue that seems to be happening a lot more recently he has a message come up saying connection reset by remote host although he can still browse the web using explorer it just effects the aol software he has all the usual spyware antivirus programs and upto date and has scanned the system and spoken to aol who have suggested settings etc that seem to have no effect just wondered if anyone else has had this problem or who may know the likely cause/solution?

This could be somewhat unsettling ...
My first concern, assuming dialup connection, is a dialer malware infection.
Is your friend connecting directly to AOL/internet or via a Proxy connection?
Also have your friend "run the phone number on Google" he is dialing up to establish ISP connection. Sometimes AOL buys bandwidth from local internet provider. If yes, call said ISP and see if they can shed any light.

    Throwing darts ....
Hopefully friend is running a 3rd party firewall (not XP's resident filewall).
Bring up all granted access rules ... find anything that looks suspicious?

    Another Dart
Has friend ever used any type of "remote control / remote access" type programs?
