I have a brand new pc.
I want to move all my Netscape info to it.
    Mail
    bookmarks
    password info
    and all the email stuff..
such as added words, stuff that goes to junk folder.
I'm using Netscape 7.2 and want to stay with it.
How do I save and transfer all of this to the new pc?
I have a 250mg Jump Drive that I'm using to move alot
    of it over with.
I don't know where to begin with the Netscape stuff
and it's the most important thing on my pc to me.
All help will be greatly appriciated!!!! :D
I've always gotten great help here so this is always
    where I come for info.
This is the very best place to learn and get help
    with Netscape!!!
    Thanks,
    Debbie in Al

    Debbie,

It's fairly simple to move a Netscape 7.2 profile from PC to PC. All that's necessary is to copy the Profiles folder to the Mozilla folder here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla

replacing the existing Profiles folder. There is a new feature in the Mozilla 1.7.x code, on which Netscape 7.2 is based, which has support for relative paths for mail folders in prefs.js. This enables the user to copy profiles from PC to PC, etc., without having to edit the prefs.js

The OS on the new PC is most likely Windows XP and keep in mind that when you view files/folders in Windows Explorer, files are hidden, by default. To see hidden files:

    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

Let us know if you need further help.

I just have to add however, that you might want to give some thought to moving on to either Mozilla 1.7.8 or Firefox and Thunderbird.

And would I get to keep everything I've got in the netscape email?
    Thanks for helping. :)

    Debbie,

I use Firefox 1.0.4 and Thunderbird 1.0.2. Yes, you would be able to move your Mail to Thunderbird, or to Mozilla 1.7.8. It is an uncomplicated process.

    Now I'm confused.
    Is that 2 different browsers?
Also will you post the link for downloading them?
Did you keep Netscape or uninstall it?
Also can I keep my other stuff that I asked about
in the 1st post if I change to the other?
I know I ask for alot of info!!
I've just been a diehard Netscape user even with
all my tech friends telling me I was crazy.
I just like it and don't like IE at all.

    Debbie,

There is also Netscape 8.0.2 which you might also wish to consider...

Maybe you should give some thought to which browser you really want. Read the Release Notes for these browsers, and read the Newsgroups and Forums.

    Downloads:

Netscape 8.0.2 - Browser Only - No Mail Client
    http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/download_alt.jsp

Firefox 1.0.4 - Browser Only - No Mail Client
Thunderbird 1.0.2 - Mail Client Only
    http://www.mozilla.org/

Mozilla 1.7.8 - A suite which includes browser, mail, and composer for web publishing.
    http://www.mozilla.org/releases/

I have all of the above browsers installed in separate folders, and they live happily with one another.

We will be delighted to answer any further questions you have...

Ramona. it was said that Netscape was no longer going to be upgraded but now they have come out with the 8.
Are they still getting out or are they going to still be upgrading?
I'd like to stay with Netscape as long as possible.
Thanks for your time and all the help.
    You are great!

No one can tell if or what is going to be done with Netscape.
Honestly, AOL has owned Netscape for quite a few years, and they will do whatever they think will work for them. The Netscape, as we have gotten to love will not be either upgraded or updated. AOL disposed of their Netscape division, and the 8 series is not made in house.
NS7.2 has security hole which were patched in the different Mozillas, and the browser only Firefox is favored by the Mozilla people. And, guess what? NS8.02 is based on Firefox. Ramona's explanation is excellent. But you can get from me my jaded view on the matter, since I spent quite some time doing beta testing for AOL.

Thanks for your input....... the jaded opinon is always welcome with me. LOL
So in others words what i nee to do is download Firefox and get used to it.
Now is Firefox a browser and mail client too? Excuse me but I'm just getting up and the brain is still in fuzzy mode (gotta make coffee lol)
Will I also be able to use all the stuff I asked about in the 1st post?

Thanks so much for your time,
    Debbie

    Debbie,

Have your coffee, I'm drinking mine, then back up to my Reply #6 (which is shown in the upper right hand of the Reply). That gives you the info about all the browsers we have discussed. Firefox is a browser only, with no mail client. You will need to install a Mail application also. I suggest Thunderbird, as it is the Gecko companion for Firefox. The download links are in Reply #6 also.

You will be able to transfer everything from Netscape 7.2 to both these programs. We can help with that when you're ready.

I'm using new pc...... all day job! lol
Of course I cleaned off the desk first and did some rearranging.
Well..... here's what dumb thing I did. I knew I'd do something, I always do. lol
I was using the Jump Drive to move things over and had the profiles folder on it.
When I put it in the new pc I must have clicked yes on the secure check and it erased the folder. Now I go to old pc and yep you guessed it ........ no longer on it. So I gues I'll do the address book and everything the old way and type it in.....lol
    I am having one problem.
I am using Netscape 7.2 and get email updates on my searches from ebay.
All of a sudden I only get the scanned by AVG and virus free message.
    Nothing else in the email.
It started on my old pc. Is there a setting somewhere I've got set wrong?
I remember having this happen before but don't remember what I did to fix it.
    Thanks for helping,
    Debbie

There are so many things which I don't do, and you do which sound so unusual, that I will have to ask some question. You mention searches on ebay. Are you doing the searches, and you have the results e-mailed to you?
Who does the scanning with AVG free. Totally

    Debbie,

Check this setting in the Mail & Newsgroups:
    View | Message body as
Have you selected: Original HTML? If not, try that setting an see if the message body appears.

I checked on it Ramona and it's already checked.
    To answer questions.
I have saved searches on ebay and they email me with updates on them.
The updates also have pics in them.
But now I'm not getting anything in the message body at all, and it's just from ebay that it is doing this.
AVG is set up to scan all my incoming mail automatically for viruses.
    Anymore suggestions?
I'm totally stumped on this one.
Thanks you two for helping me,
    Debbie
