    mcmaster,

    From the MozillaZine KB:

    MSN Messenger
    From MozillaZine Knowledge Base
(Redirected from Firefox : FAQs : MSN Messenger)

MSN Messenger is hard coded to open "New e-mail message" links with Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, every currently known workaround involves downloading and installing additional software. Nonetheless, it is still important to check that Firefox is set as your default browser.

Yahoo Messenger hooks up with Yahoo Mail, and will open links in Firefox, if set as default browser.
    I just did a test.
