Yet another spyware issue here. My desktop has been taken over by a red/black screen that says "DANGER:SPYWARE ". I ran a mcafee virus scan and 5 things came up that I deleted. I am running AOL and when this appeared so did a "please wait while we install the plugin" screen on aol. It put two "young teens sex" dialer shortcuts on my desktop, one of which I could delete, the other I could not. All of my shortcuts on my desktop have disappeared except the standard; recycle bin, my documents, my computer, my network places.

Please let me know first steps.

I do have to admit I am very new to this spyware/virus stuff (and SO frustrated!) :)

    Thanks for your help!

BTW-I was suggested by a friend to download http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en
    and am now doing that.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS nautiluskjb :)

After running Microsoft Antispyware, if New.net is found, DO NOT allow it to be removed, or quarantined!!

Please do as Welshjim suggested and run Ad-aware, Spybot, an online virus scan (I prefer RAV), and if still having problems, post a HijackThis log along with the results from the online virus scan.

Please check C:\Program Files for any folders by the following names and let us know if any exist.

    Security IGuard
    Virtual Maid
    Search Maid
    AntiVirusGold
    PSGuard
    SpySheriff
