Windows Update works sporadically. 9 times out of 10 it will fail.

The error it gives is 0x800C0005.

Now I have tried just about everything I could find on the net. Probably best to just suggest things and I will re-do them though.

    I have checked the time:
it is set to GMT -8
June 16th at 8:47 PM at the time of writing this post.

Which is correct for Victoria B.C. timezone. I am not sure what they mean by "check time" I am in Australia but I would like to have my Canadian timezone time on my PC and leave the Australian on my watch.

Regional languages installed are US English

I have unregistered and re-registered numerous dll's but don't know the exact ones.

All of a sudden once in a while Windows Update will work. I don't get why.

Hope someone can help me find a fix, it is really starting to frustrate me.

    Regards,
    Jason

Thanks Arie, hadn't read that article, this is a Windows 2000 Server it mentioned 2003 in that.

I did all the steps in that article, rebooted and it did not fix the error. Any more ideas?

    Regards,
    Jason

I am running Windows Server 2000 SP4, I read that SP3 and SP4 should be able to run v5 of Windows Update site? I changed the v4 to v5 and it ended up redirecting back to v4.

Also another option I saw on this forum was BigFix, I don't know what I need to do though to get this to replace Windows Update. I don't want to spend money on a program and don't need anything fancy, this is for personal use and Windows Update should work. Do i need to download any kind of "Fixlet" as it says for the Windows Patching feature? Or is that part of the basic features of BigFix?

    Regards,
    Jason
