I installed Adblock last week and am Using FF 1.0.4. and MS98 SE. However, every time I visit a site that has not been "allowed" by Adblock which is almost all sites (including favorites) I can't work within the windows. When I click on Adblock and "allow javascript" for that site Firefox crashes - the old "Firefox has committed" message then a crash. However, when I reopen Firefox and go back to that web site it now allows Javascript for that site. I checked my plugins and all java plugins are enabled. Mozilla default is not enabled. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to allow javascript globally.

I would get rid of that extention. You may find some people who have learned how to cope with it, but, it is not worth the effort, in my opinion.

Are you using the original AdBlock extension, or AdBlock Plus?

I had a problem involving AdBlock Plus just the day before yesterday, where certain parts of a particular page flashed into view, then immediately disappeared. No Firefox crash, but I'm using XP SP2.

I was able to solve the problem by using AdBlock Plus's "whitelist" feature. It may take some playing around with it to get it to work as you want, but it's worth the effort.

I'm using Adblock, downloaded from the Mozilla Extensions site last week. It also includes NoScript v. 1.0.9, which seems to be control wheter or not javascript is allowed. I'm not aware of Adblock Plus.

Java has nothing to do with this, but javascript, sure, affects any website.
It is my feeling that if you want to fight it out, Adblock is worth the effort, but when you are trying to overturn almost any web page, something will strike back.
I took a quick look at the feedback from users at the Extention Room, and I noticed quite a bit of disagreement on AdBlock. Either the best thing ever invented or downright evil. In addition, there seems to be a newsgroup, or more than one? Take a look at http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/adblock

I just received an answer by email that indicates the problem I'm having is probably with NoScript, which I also downloaded. It seems there is a bug in Firefox that causes it to crash when using NoScript. Hopefully they are working on it. Supposedly there is a workaround to solve the problem from the creator of NoScript. Meanwhile I've disabled NoScript and we'll see if that cures the crashing problem. I'll let eveyone know.

    Thanks for your help.

I had pretty much figured out that it had to do with NoScript. I took a look at the website. In my opinion an extention should conform to the program, and not the other way around.
It takes some discipline, but I use the Prefbar, which has Colors, Images and Javascript enabled.
I can disable them, on the fly. But the extention is so much better. But these the chances that one takes with Extentions. To me the fewer the better, and some Extention do require uninstalling, but the uninstall either is not working, or installation on top will cause a total freeze. I have had to remove, manually, all Extentions twice on account of the User Agent Switcher.

Instead of the original AdBlock, try AdBlock Plus. Use the link in my post #3.

I couldn't get User Agent Switcher to work at all, some months ago, and switched to Launchy. It works flawlessly with both FF and TB, and has other features in addition to user agent switching.
