    Hi,

I applied the latest security updates for IE v6 this morning. Unfortunately, the installation was interrupted before it completed. Now I am having all sorts of problems.

First symptom was in Outlook 2000 which stopped sending emails even though it said the operation had succeeded. I edit my emails with MS Word, but every time I try to now, it fails with a Windows Installer error 1606.

If I try to look at my accounts in Outlook it says I have a registry problem and I should restart Outlook and if the problem remains, reinstall. Needless to say the problem stays. However, if I try to repair Office 2000 with the original disks it says:

Error 1402 Could not open key:
    UNKNOWN\Installer\Patches\35D1205B464EB704B9839D77 C8B504E1\
Sourcelist. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or conatct your support personnel.

Looks like some sort of registry corrpution, but if I can't even reinstall Office, where should I start?

    Thanks

    David

Thanks for the link, but I think it's more complicated than that. I already have the latest Installer and the Office 2000 SR-1a Update. I re-installed the Installer, but I can't re-install the SR-1a update without first re-installing the original Office 2000. And as I said in the first post, I can't re-install or repair from the original disks; it tells me :

Error 1402 Could not open key:
    UNKNOWN\Installer\Patches\35D1205B464EB704B9839D77 C8B504E1\
Sourcelist. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or conatct your support personnel.

Try going back to a registry prior to the problem occurring. See this HelpWithWindows.com article to get you started.

Thanks Arie. Sensible advice. I followed the instructions, but although I successfully restored a registry from the day before the problem started and then the day before that, it didn't work and I have exactly the same symptoms.

    Any other ideas?
