Does anyone out there know how to change the computer owners name. I'm not asking about the users name, but I need the one you type in when you first format the hard drive and XP prompts you for the owners name.
I use Windows XP Home, SP-2.
    Thank you

Control Panel> System> Computer Name click "Change" at the bottom of the dialog box. Heed the warnings about access to network resources, if needed.

Thanks Johanna, but I'm not looking to change the computer name or the users name.

It's the OWNERS name that I'm trying to change. I am trying to sync 2 computers together and because of the difference in the owners names it makes it difficult.

The owners name shows up when I do a right click/properties on "my documents folder" as an example, it looks like this.
    "C:\Documents and Settings\My Owners Name\My Documents "
That is the name I'm trying to change.

It's all over the registry and I wonder if I just went and changed every instance of it in the registry would do it. Sounds like allot of work if it just reverts back when I change them all.

Are you talking about the supervisor password in the BIOS setup? If so, hit DEL during bootup and go to SUPERVISOR PASSWORD. You will have to enter another password which will cancel out the old one.

What you are referring to here is a username, not the owner's name. If you want to share resources between the two machines make sure the usernames are the same and that they have the same non-blank password.

If the issue is synching, try using the Briefcase feature.
