Using Netscape 7.2 on my W98SE laptop with a cable connection to the internet: I get a delay of about 10 or more seconds from the time I click the Netscape icon on my desktop until my home page appears. During that time I see a Netscape display that looks like an automobile dashboard.

Is there way to reduce this delay, or is it inherent with Netscape?

    Thanks .... wdc

If nothing about Netscape is loaded, it will take time. You have to load plugins, bookmarks, mail. All sorts of stuff, so 10 sec lag is very reasonable.
I don't find this particularly long, but Netscape has thought that some people are not as spaced out as I am. There is a selection which is available when you first install NS, and you will find it in your preferences|Advanced|check the Quick Launch box. Close NS, and it will start very quickly, and you will also see the Shortcut icon in the systray.
The so called splashscreen can be eliminated by right clicking on the shortcut icon, on the Desktop, select Properties, and type in the Target line: -quiet
Make sure that you leave one keyboard space between the existing words and the new stuff.
Finally, you will have to disable Quick Launch under certainly conditions, to do troubleshooting.
    Good luck!
