When do you get this error?

Does it happen everytime you boot up?

Have you rebooted since you got it?

Did you recently do anything to or with Norton AntiVirus?

    Hi Lis,
In addition to Steve's questions, "What version of Norton are you using "?
While doing a prescreen at the "Symantec support site" for known Symantec/Norton related issues, I did come across a few references to this error but they seemed to be version specific so this information would be helpful.

    Also.......
Arie is still not going to like the nondescriptive generic title you've given your post. May I suggest you use the keywords from your problems description. Something like:
    NAVAPW32 error in kernel32

    NAVAPW32 error in kernel32

When do you get this error? 0930 hrs. 5/24/05 "“ Power was on. However, PC was not being utilized.

Does it happen every time you boot up? No

Have you rebooted since you got it? Yes

Did you recently do anything to or with Norton Anti Virus? No

Norton AntiVirus Version 8.02 is installed.

The error message became visible on the desktop wallpaper without any programs open. Since I powered down, over night, and reenergized the issue has not returned.

In the future I shall provide applicable information with more appropriate subject matter.

105º in El Paso. Perhaps the intense heat is distressing my tiny grey cells?
    Have a great Memorial day.

    Hi Lis,
Any more problems since your reboot? Were you connected to the net when this happened? This may have been a fluke if random, which I assume it is. Nav does things periodically, depending on your options. Perhaps it was checking for a connection to see if there is updates available or to autoupdate (if set for this). If your clean and you know your clean and this doesn't happen again I would chalk it up to a fluke. That will happen on occasion. If your unsure or nervous do an online scan. If it were me, I probably would anyway. In my opinion, any Norton Antivirus Scanner older than 2004 has a problem with adequately dealing with Trojans and malware. One or two snuck by my 2002 version.

The known Nav/kernel32 errors are errors that would occur regularly or errors based on infection and, again, this type of error would be occur regularly on bootup/reboot. Two noted involve an mmsystem.dll line missing in system.ini or a task scheduler glitch but again if this was an issue, for you, it would re-occur on a regular basis.

This is kind of lame advice, I know, sorry. But it is what I would do, myself. If Norton is acting normal, icon is in systray where it should be, no problems doing a thorough scan, no problems opening and viewing other things, such as viewing quaranteened files or reading the log from within Nortons panel of options, no bad on-line scan, I'd relax but stay alert for odd behavior.

Nothing new to report. With RR I am always connected to the Internet.
Hopefully, a one time stroke of ghastly destiny?

Ran scan disk, defrag, Spybot, AdAware, Norton. PC is pristine. All systems are go......ready to launch. :)

    Thanks.

Issue has not returned in 72 hrs. :) Perhaps an unstable bit? Shall we say issue resolved. Case closed? Thanks for all the replies.
