I get an "OUTLOOK.exe Has Generated Errors and Will Be Closed by Windows" error when I try to type in the comments section of a new contact. So I hit new contact, and then try to type. Interestingly enough, it is only generated when I type in specifically $750 in that order of characters, all together. It is when I type the "0" key that the error comes up. If I type them individually, nothing happens. I have tried all the different Microsoft Solutions as provided by the KB docs to no avail. The box is a W2k OS and is running Outlook 2k. Any thoughts?

    tia!!

I have three different versions of Outlook at the office. I see if I can recreate it in the morning.

Only when you create a new contact? If you open an existing and put $750 in the comments section, it works OK?

I verified that the problem happens regardless of whether or not it is a new contact. I don't think it is an Outlook 2k issue per say, because I have other systems I tried it on running the same software and can't duplicate the error. On this particular box, however, it is reproducible on demand. I'm really trying to not have to uninstall and reinstall, if possible, but at some point, the ROI on the issue isn't worth it. (other than I hate to lose to a computer!!) :)

    I couldn't reproduce it either.

Click on Help and select repair.

In addition to the repair of Office, I'd also suggest getting to a start=>run line and keying in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
to let that utility scan for damaged or missing system files and replace any that are bad.

    Sorry for the delayed post...

Steve, I tried the Help and Repair, and although it went through the steps of the repair, the problem still remained.

Newt, I get an error when I try the sfc /scannow utility. Windows comes back with a "Windows File Protection" GUI window that says "Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache. Insert your Windows 2000 Professional CD now. "

The biggest problem I have with this is I don't have the CD for this user. All the files are for the CD are loaded on the network drive, but there isn't an option to redirect to the drive. Any thoughts?

    New Update

So I found another interesting part of the problem. It doesn't matter that I am in Contacts. If I type in $750 in the address of a new email, it gives me the same error. Interestingly, Microsoft has a knowledge base article on the error, but after doing everything they suggest, I still have the problem.

This is getting incredibly frustrating now. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, this problem won't go away.

Newt, going along your thought process, do you think I need to get a Win2k Pro disk in order to run the scannow utility? Is it possible something is really out of whack that I will need to reinstall some system files?
