Prior to XP and ADSL I was able to utilize software to run a phone/fax system from my PC.

I have a modem card installed and an ethernet connection for ADSL.

I have not been able to get any phone/fax software to work since I left Win 98 and dial up connections behind.

Yep I've loaded MS fax but no go on that one also...no doubt it is a simple solution for someone out there.

    Appreciate your help.

Do you still have the much needed phone line connected to your modem?

I too have had problems with the fax utility within Windows XP, but only since I loaded SP2. If you are running Windows XP SP2, I think the problem is in the upgrade to service pack 2. Mine worked fine before the upgrade to SP2. I have not been able to find a solution to this problem yet. I get the same message - either an error has occurred in sending this fax, or a communication line error occurred.

I also had problems using WinFax Pro 10.01. I have read it is not compatible with Win XP, but that 10.02 is. You might check out http://www.rkssoftware.com/mightyfax/overview.html

Everything I have read on faxing after you leave dialup is that you must still be able to connect your phone line and use the fax modem in your computer.

RayH, is your version 10.01 or 10.02. My version just says version 10, but if I look at the "help, about" it shows 10.01. I got the information about the incompatibility with XP from the Symantec site/forums. I'm glad yours is working, but I could not get mine to work and had to uninstall. Then, I had a problem with some of the WinFax macros that work with MS Word giving me an error. I finally got that fixed this morning, but I still am going to have to do some manual cleanup. Norton/Symantec products are notorious for leaving stuff behind when you uninstall them.
