When I am selecting multiple documents by holding down the Ctrl key, copies are automatically being created while I am in the process of selecting. Copies of the copies are even made while I am still selecting. When I am finished doing what I want with the selected documents, I have to go back and delete all the copies and copy of copies.

I do this all the time. (by accident) When you go to click a file, if you so much as move/drag the file a fraction it makes a copy.

    automatic copying THANKS

Thanks so much Steve. I thought maybe I was the only one having this problem and that I was doing something wrong. I have tried clicking on the icons only, name of document only, and with the same results. I'll just learn to live with it. It is just a minor annoyance. Really appreciate your quick response. Might want to go into Control Panel> Mouse and see if there are settings to make your mouse less sensitive.

When you are holding the cntrl key down and pick and choosing your files, watch closely. If you notice that when you have moved anyone of these files (or the mouse) it is considered a drag and lines with an arrow will appear to show an indication that a movement has been detected. Release the cntrl key, not the mouse key. This will cancel the copy action. Your current highlighted items will stay highlighted but the copy action will be cancelled.

While looking in the cntrl panel under the available options for the mouse (via the icon) I did notice something called "quicklock ", never used it, but it sounds like a problem/blooper maker. Perhaps you have turned on such an option for your mouse. If you have one of the fancier meeces that has it's own options and settings that came with software install/bundle, perhaps something in these is a potential blooper maker.

As Johanna mentioned, perhaps a tweak of your drag sensitivity should be done....While I don't have this option in my control panel>mouse icon I do have "tweakui" which has this built in. If you have Powertoys "tweakui" It has a mouse category for selecting and customizing the drag option sensitivity or the distance a drag must make before it is detected and qualified as a drag. Perhaps this is worth a shot.
