Windows Update (automatic) informed me that an update was ready for installation. I proceeded to turn off the computer to complete the installation but this procedure was stopped by a message saying that a problem had been encountered. I was advised to reboot. When I did so I found that all my desktop icons were very big. When I tried to adjust the screen resolution from 640x480 and the color quality from 4 bit the slider wouldn't move. I tried to update the monitor driver but I was told by Microsoft that I had the latest one. I've viewed other posts on this matter but not found one specific to my situation. Does anybody see any obvious solution to my problem? The computer works perfectly in every other respect except for the screen resolution and color quality which will not allow itself to be changed. Many thanks.

Can try the Driver Roll Back feature in Device Mangler->Video Card

Or Look for new drivers for the video card.

In 'Device Manager' I don't see any mention of 'Video Card'. In my computer specifications it says that I have Integrated Sound, Video and NIC. What now?

In Device Manager look for DISPLAY Adaptor aka video card.

    Thanks, Steve! I went to:

    Start>R-click 'My Computer'>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Expand Display Adapter>R-click on Graphic Controller>Properties>Driver>Roll Back Driver.

After using the Roll Back option my resolution and color quality is now back to normal. Many thanks for your help. Much obliged :)
