I have 3 computers at home communicating thru a router/hub. Let's call them A, B, & C. Am running XP Pro. Everything was fine until recently. Don't know what went wrong ... possibly a system update.(?)

Problem: A can access folders on B & C, but B & C cannot access folders on A. I have rerun Network Setup Wizard, twice and rebooted. No luck. When I try to access drives or folders on A, the ID/password dialog box comes up ... even though I have the same ID/password on all PC's. To make things more confusing, Remote Desktop on A is available from B & C. WinXP firewall is off.

    Any help would be appreciated.

There is the little hand by the C-drive (by all drives) in Windows Explorer that indicates it is being shared. However, to insure it was shared correctly, I right-clicked on it and then clicked on Properties. Received an error message saying that Dr. Watson was going down ... sorry for the inconvenience. Right clicked again, selected Properties and got an error message saying that Windows Explorer was closing ... and then it hung. Had to Restart. This has happened sporadically in the past, but rebooting used to clear it. It didn't this time. Could this be related? What would you suggest?

Seems that some files of Windows XP Pro on computer A are missing...
In a similar case I ran a Repair of Windows XP Pro and after everything was fine.

    John,

Re-installed WinXP Service Pack 2. Unfortunately it did not resolve the problem. Still getting error msgs wrt to Dr. Watson, Windows Explorer going down, and then the system hangs. I thought SP2 replaced the existing system. Must I re-install the original WinXP and then re-install SP2??

This sounds a bit familiar. In my case
You should have a workstation and a server service running. If you don't have both running, access works one way but not the other. Check what's running and what isn't.

    Brummig,

Thanks. The problem turned out to be something to do with permissions. After re-setting network sharing permissions from scratch, communication between PC's is fine.
