I can ping (from a command prompt) to an external site from the internet servers, but can not ping externally from behind firewall. Is this a DNS issue on the domain controller or is it possibly something on the internet server? I am stumped and don't knw where to look next.

This could be the firewall itself blocking the echo reply (ping).

I too thought the firewall could be the problem, but I tried several different firewall programs and still had the same problem.

If you can surf from inside the firewall then DNS should not be an issue. Can you ping an address, but not a name? That would indicate DNS issues.

How are you accessing the Internet? Through a proxy server? Perhaps the problem lies there. Or a filter on a router?

I have 2 cable modems connected to 2 servers (Win2003). Each server has 2 NIC cards, one for the internal network and the other for the cable modem. WinProxy (by Ositis) is installed on each server and acts as a proxy server for internet access within the network.

Normal internet browsing works just fine. But I can not ping to an IP or to a domain name (yahoo.com for example) from a command prompt inside the firewall.

You will probably have to bypass the proxy server to ping. MS has a free tool in the 03 reskit that can do this, RPC Ping:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;831051

else try setting Internet Options/Connection Tab/ do not use proxy and then should be able to ping anywhere and if no joy then the server itself is misconfigured.

None of the above worked. Any other ideas?

Stupid question: Have you tried working with no firewall program at all? NB - if you try this, I suggest working this way only just long enough to run the test.

    Yes, I tried that.

    ***Problem Solved***

I was able to get in contact with a buddy who works for Microsoft...it turns out my Domain controller needed to have the correct forwarders added to DNS. Also, RRAS on the internet servers was misconfigured. NAT/Basic Firewall settings needed adjusting as well.

Thanks to all who assisted me on this.
