I am nearing my wits end. My Win2k file server has randomly experienced 0xD1 bugchecks and I have been unable to resolve them.

    Server HW profile:
    Dell PowerEdge 1600SC
    Dual Xeon procs @ 2.4Ghz
    512MB RAM
Dual 36GB SCSI Hard drives - software Raid 1; connect to MB
Integrated LSI Logic 1020/1030 Ultra320 SCSI adapter
Adaptec SCSI 29160 Ultra160 card that is connected to external tape drive.

    Server SW/Driver profile:
    Windows 2000 Server
ALL Windows updates have been applied.
Dell BIOS update A12 has been applied.
Driver and firmware updates for 29160 card applied.

    Additional steps I have taken:
    * Ran Dell Utility mode: system diag - all devices passed; memory test - no errors.
    * Ran LSI Login utlity (SCSI): Verify drive 0 & 1: no errors
    * Modified setting "enable disconnection" for SCSI ID 3 (tape drive) from Yes to No based on Adaptec article # 2162.

I would like to just rebuild the server but because of the up-time requirements, that is not an option currently. I have attempted to use "Windbg" to identify the problem in the Memory.DMP but with no luck due to my lack of knowledge.

I would certainly welcome any suggestions and help. Thanks in advance.

I can't suggest more then to follow the details on the Troubleshooting Windows Explorer Errors page, under If after following the advice above, you are still getting crashes when opening/using Windows Explorer, we need to do some advanced troubleshooting (Windows 2000/XP/2003 only).

Although my problem is almost positively not related to windows explorer since the crash is occurring after hours, I did follow the initial steps on your link for debugging the dump file. The following was generated from the debugwiz util.

    834938 You receive a "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP 0xD1" error message
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=834938

I recommend you give PSS a call and obtain this hotfix to see if it resolves it.
