the shop replaced my old pctel hsp56 micro modem with an aopenfm56.svv soft pcimodem which was replaced by an intel(r)536 ep modem which shows up on device manager as being the modem in the computer. all three modems (drivers) are listed in add/remove programs can i remove the other two modems(drivers) safely? system info shows the intel as being the modem in the computer but there are about 13 drivers showing but as not installed! very  in fact seriously

Personally, if the shop gave you the driver CD for the new modem, I would remove ALL modem drivers in Safe mode and also references to them in add/remove software. Then re-boot and reinstall the drivers for the modem in use. In most cases the reinstall would just involve canceling out of the new hardware wizard and running the install from the modem CD.

jaylach thanks i removed the old ati and that was spooky desktop disappeared and computer restarted. and i got rid of the first two modems kept the intel and no they didnt give me the cd. to be honest i am sort of upset with them, they sort of let me think that it was my fault the aopen wouldnt work, that i removed the tcp/ip! and i dont think so i know what it is and i dont think it was installed when they did a wipe out of windows 98 and put on windows98se the only tcp/ip listed was the one with my ethernet card. i use dial-up as a back-up and they just couldnt understand why i wanted it on my computer. since finally got it working i have had to use twice i am a firm believer of dial-up is better than no-up. sorry to go on about problems with shop but i dont think i removed it and they didnt tell me that they put in another modem or like i said give me the cd for it
 about that but :) for your help. thanks again
