I have had Communicator e mail as my e mail default for quite a while now. I want to change the default to
http://www.incredimail.com/?lang=9 . The new program was set to become my default and indicates that it is such. But
when I try to open an e mail that requires an open e mail server, it continues to open Communicator's e mail. How can I
change that? I do not want to un install it because I still use it occasionally.

    Hi Geezer72+
Have you gone up to tools..then internet options..and under the programs tab, ensured that you have it set as your email ?

    Hi Geezer72+,

If you want to use Netscape Communicator as your default browser, and Incredimail as your default email, try this and see if it works:

Go to the Edit menu and select:
    Preferences|Mail and Newsgroups
Deselect the option to use Netscape Messenger from Mapi-based applications.

This should prevent Messenger from being the default email client.

If you continue to have problems, let us know.

    Hi Geezer72+,

When you open Internet Options in:
    Start|Settings|Control Panel
and click on the Programs tab, is Incredimail listed as your Email program, or is Netscape Messenger listed?

That setting may need to be changed. Incredimail should be listed in the drop down menu, if the setting now reflects Netscape Messenger.

Let us know if this helps,

    Ramona :D

Hmmmm... Is Communicator your default browser? Since you have Outlook Express listed for Newsgroups, this prompted the question.

This is very strange, as your settings so far are correct.

Thanks Daizy, and I believe this must be where the problem lies, in the configuration of IncrediMail!

I tried all of the setting and all seem to be basicly correct. Perhaps I must un install Communicator and re install it. I had to do that once when I accidently made Eudora my default e mail

    Geezer72+,

Have you configured Netscape as your default browser, or is IE your default browser?

    Hi Geezer72+,

You can copy and paste the following line into your prefs.js and liprefs.js file, which are located in:

    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\yourusername

    user_pref( "browser.wfe.ignore_def_check ", false);

If the line is already there, change the "true" to "false" as shown above.

This will force Netscape to ask if it is the default browser.

    To do so, close Netscape
Open Notepad, then browse to the above Users folder location.
    Back up your prefs.js file
Then add the line to both files

    Now look for this line:

    user_pref( "mail.wfe.ignore_def_check ", true);

Change the "true" to "false "

    Click Save then Exit Notepad

Open Communicator, and you should get a prompt asking whether or not to make Netscape your default browser. Answer "NO ".

If this doesn't work, then look to your IncrediMail configuration for problems.

Well here is the next part of the saga. I am either too stupid or inept to carry out what you suggested, so I uninstalled Communicator, started Incredimail , tried to open something that required an e mail server and was told that incredimail was not properly installed as the default. I reinstalled Communicater making sure that it was not the default e mail client or the browser. Then I wrote to incredimail and haven't heard from them yet.

So far nothing from intellimail. I get the message that Default e mail client is not properly installed when I attempt to use it . Communicator does not open now. I have uninstalled intellimail and re installed it. All to no avail. I went into c drive, program files, intellimail, but I don't know which is the default e mail client to delete it. I didn't want to lose everything I had already installed.Any suggestions??

    Hello Geezer72+,

You are having one heck of a time, aren't you? I hear your frustration!

I believe the error you're getting means that IncrediMail.. which you have made the default email client... hasn't been properly installed.

I have read most of the FAQ on the IncrediMail site. This one caught my attention immediately, and I wonder if you are using any of the following ISP's:

    AOL, Juno, Excite or CompuServe

These email providers went to great lengths to block their users from using any email client besides their own. We are sorry but unfortunately, until they decide otherwise, you will not be able to connect your account to IncrediMail.
    ---

If none of the above are your provider, then I would uninstall IncrediMail. Print out the install instructions, and install it again, going step by step with the instructions on the link that Daizy provided.

Either that, or keep trying to get in touch with IncrediMail.

    Ramona :D

Well, here is the lastest of my ongoing saga. I uninstalled the intintellimail. re installed it over and over. I went into my C, Program files , intellimail, and removed it from the C drive. I reinstalled it both with the wizzard as well as manually. I still get this message; "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed" I even started all, over using my wife's E Mail as the primary user. Before I impported my own it it, It woild not do it either. Now, I think I am not doing something correctly some where else on the computer.I have no other default e mail server. I haven't a clue!!
