Not sure if this is exactly what you want to do but to merge cells on a worksheet select the cells you want to merge then click on Format>Cells>Alignment then check the "Merge Cells" box at the bottom of the dialog box.

    This is in Excel 2000.

I need to turn the merge cells button on the toolbar back on and don't exactly know how to and don't know how I turned it off. I know how to merge the cells just don't have a button turned on to do it. Thanks

Hi Sheila: OK understand what you want.

Right click on the toolbar, click on "Customize" at the bottom of the dropdown list. Click on "Command" tab, click on "Format" in the left column; scroll down in the right column until you find the "Merge" button you want. There are four button selections: Merge and Centre; Merge Cells; Unmerge Cells; Merge Across. Left click and hold on the button you want and drag to the Toolbar and release. You can repeat this to put any or all of the other buttons on the TB.

    Hope this helps.:)
