    Hello;

    I just recently started having problems with my Outlook Express detecting my Hotmail mail account and I was wondering if this was an error in my Outlook Express. I run WindowsXP SP2 and I aslo have the ZoneAlarm Pro firewall but NOT the XP firewall. I also get the error when I turn off the ZoneAlarm firewall. I am able to access the email when I link directly to MSN but in the past I was able to get it in Outlook Express also. This is the error that I get:

    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    From Hotmail help section:

    "To protect our users from the increasing amount of unsolicited junk e-mail or spam sent from MSN HotmailSympatico Mail accounts through Outlook and Outlook Express, we have reluctantly had to restrict the new use of Outlook and Outlook Express to subscribers. "

    They started doing away this a while back. Have to get the paid service..

    Well I guess they made the changes last night because today was the first time I haven't been able to access it and I've had my Hotmail account for 4 years and have always been able to get it through Outlook Express.

    Thanks anyway I guess I'll just have to get rid of my Hotmail.

    I have Hotmail and like you have had it for a long time. I get that error message from time to time and I just try later and have no problem. I would not get rid of Hotmail over one error message. I like Hotmail a lot for the spam filters if nothing else.

    Sometimes Hotmail servers get a bit stuffed up. MSN is the most cantakerous of the Hotmail servers. It may be a temporary thing. It may be a permanent thing if the pay for Outlook Express is now enacted.

    A while back, I dumped all my Hotmails for Gmail and never looked back.
