WHEN I switch on my P.C it takes following approx. time to start any program to work on XP.

ON switching 35 secs. for window to appear for prompting user password..,thereafter it takes 1min & 20 secs. for any program viz. DUN or I.E etc. window to appear TOTAL : 1 MIN,55 SEC.

is this o.k by any standard.
Followinf is noted 1) when desktop icons appears and when I hit DUN or I.E it takes few secs. for window to display, CAN see CPU working light on. ,it was not taking earlier to long .What is reason

Can a folder shortcut on desktop (containg few games) be a culprit or is it routine.
Any one to resolve or comment pl.

A lot depends on what all you are starting up when Windows boots up. Go to START > RUN and type msconfig.exe <enter. and see whats in the Start Up tab area. If you can whittle it down some, it'll make Windows load faster however, you don't have any big problem. Your time is probably acceptable if you're loading a few items.

Nope, no folder shortcut on the Desktop will have any effect on that.

    Good luck.

If you are on a network and have mapped drives, it will slow down your start-up some.

Panchal, my system is dual-booted like yours with W98SE and XP Pro (NTSF), and I just checked. Time required after hitting the switch, from the boot menu to fully booted into the User name of choice in the Welcome screen -- 44 seconds. Hope this helps.

Panchal - take a look at Q233541 for a good explanation of what disk caching is (on Microsoft systems) and you can decide if you want it or not.

Article is written for Win2000 but applies to XP as well.
