Bought a good deal PC with XP home pre-installed. Wan't to have the XP Pro from my previous computer instead. So I removed all partitions (incl. recover partition etc.) and formatted the hard disk from scratch. Installed XP Pro - all well, but when I boot I have to chose if I want to boot from XP Pro or XP Home. How do I remove the reference to XP Home which isn't on the machine any more? (Which indeed the PC tells me if I try to chose XP Home just for the kick of it).

If you formatted the disk, all traces of XP Home should have disappeared!

However, you can change the boot.ini file to just select XP Pro.

a low level format would have removed all traces of any existing partitions/os's but with msconfig you can easily edit the boot.ini file and delete the xp home boot option.

I don't know if it was low level. Just the option you get when you install XP - to format the drive. I chose the quick format, but that should still have formated the drive and deleted all files, just not checking for bad sectors etc. - I guess.

However, changing the boot.ini did the trick. That is all that matters for now. Thanks
