The "deleted items" folder in OE6 appears empty with the message that there are no new items. However, the OE "deleted items.dbx" file properties show that it is 180MB. OE is set to empty the deleted items folder on exit, and everything in it disappears, but the file is still huge. A complete power down and restart of the PC does not help.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

    alistair,

Are you sure you are looking at megabytes vs kilobytes?? Take another look.

Even though the deleted item folder is empty with no messages in it,, the deleted items.dbx file itself is made up of bytes that take up space.

In other words, you work in an office and set up a file system. You have a folder named deleted items in the file system. At this time there may be no information inside this folder, but the empty folder itself has a physical structure and is taking up some space.

All messages you ever deleted will still be there.

The only way to get rid of them for good is to select File > Folder > Compact (or Compact All Folders ).

I compacted the folders, and deleted items.dbx went from 180,091kB to 56kB. Problem solved, and I've learned something new!

    Thank you.
