I've been using Netscape 7.2 Mail & Newsgroup feature for about 2 years, without problem. On Friday, 5/27/05, I was able to use it for the last time. That is, I was able to log on, view my email, then log out following an early evening session. However, since that session, after entering my password, all I can view are the messages that were in the system as of 5/27/05, and all of the messages moved to my Personal Folders. What I keep getting back is a error message "Failed to connect to server imap.mail.netcenter.com ". When I access my mail through the "Mail" link on the Netscape web page, I have no problem connecting. I'm in a Windows 98SE environment, with SBC/PacBell as my DSL/ISP. Everything else seems to be working normal. I would really like to know what's going on. HELP!!

    Welcome to the Forum, SRMA1963!

    SRMA1963,

That error: "Failed to connect to server imap.mail.netcenter.com" is very common to the AOL Webmail. What you might try first, is to delete the Account from the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings. Close Netscape, then reopen, and recreate the Mail Account. This sometimes works.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    Ramona,

What will happen to all the emails saved in my Personal Folders if I delete the account?

    SRMA1963,

By "personal folders" do you mean folders that you have created for archiving? Nothing will happen to them. They will remain intact on your HDD.

I just went through the process myself in order to refresh my memory, and all went well. Here are the steps:

    First:
Backup your entire Mail folder on the HD
    Open Netscape
Access Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
    Highlight the Netscape IMAP Account
Click on the "Remove Account" tab
    Exit Netscape

    Next:
    Open Netscape
Access Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
Click on the "Add Account" tab

In the next window select: "Email Account" and NOT Netscape Webmail
This is because it is almost impossible to get past the Server Screen

In the next window enter your name and email address for webmail account
In the Server Information screen select: "IMAP" mail
For the Incoming Server type: imap.mail.netcenter.com
The next window is self explanatory - user name for incoming/outgoing mail
Next: select a name for the account
Then peruse the information to ensure it's accuracy

    Next:
In the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
    Highlight: Server Settings
In the right panel at the bottom of the page, the "Local directory" field will have a path similar to this one:
    C:\< path >\Application Data\Netscpe\Profiles\username\abc123d4.slt\ImapMail\imap.mail.netcenter-1.com

    NOTE: imap.mail.netcenter-1.com

The minus one ( -1 ) is added because that account name folder already exists, and is named: imap.mail.netcenter.com

What you want to do is this:
Click on the "Browse" button just to the right of the Local directory field
Navigate to the IMAPMail folder, and select the imap.mail.netcenter.com folder. This is the original folder which actually contains the webmail, and where you want to direct your Netscape Mail.

Once you have done so, your Mail will be accessible. You may need to exit Netscape, and then reopen for the edit to take effect.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona

Try again. A number of people say that the connection was fixed.
They are going through a major changeover, including a new interface to sign on
I just want to make sure that Netscape is Webmail first, and the website shoukl be checked first. All mail deletion should be done at the Website.
