I recently downloaded a nice little word processor, Rough Draft. I like it fine. I have been using it to save lyrics documents, to a folder full of lyrics, saved on Word Pad documents, and I wondered if there`s any magic, I can perform, short of copying, deleting, pasting, and saving each individual one,to get the icons to all be the same. I`m old enough I don`t buy any green bananas, much less want to take all the time it would take to do that. I guess, to coin a phrase, I could live with it the way it is but it would look better if all the ICONS were the same.
    Thanks
    Dick

Moore--Never used Rough Draft, so do not quite understand the problem. But I understand from your post that Rough Draft documents, when Saved, are saved with various/different icons on each saved file. Correct?
The author of the program offers an email contact
    http://www.rsalsbury.co.uk/rd.htm
    Perhaps ask him?
P.S. Have you considered writing/copying these lyrics directly in WordPad or NotePad and saving those (in other words, not using Rough Draft). The icons should be all the same when you save the NotePad or WordPad documents.

I suspect I wasn`t clear enough. Maybe Icon is a wrong choice.
Picture opening my folder, named Lyrics. Inside are two or three hundred documents with the word pad symbol and the name of the song below it, open that and there are the words to the song I`ve saved.
As I have rcently began using Rough Draft to save the lyrics to the folder, the document shows up the same only with the Rough Draft symbol. They are in alphabetical order regardless of which symbol is on the front, so I`ll have maybe twenty or so Word Pads and then a Rough Draft. No big deal but it "offends my sense of continuity" :)
The Rough Draft word processor has several handy features that word pad does not have. Spell check being one of them. ( I don`t have and don`t want any processor like Office,or MS Word.) No big deal! Thanks for the reply and address.

Moore--If you right click on a file, then Properties, you will be offered the opportunity to change the program to open the file. Click the button "Change ". I have no idea if this would work (since I do not have Rough Draft), but I suspect if you chose to open a Note/Wordpad document (for example) in Rough Draft, that the icon would change. All this assumes that Rough Draft will open a Note/Wordpad document.

Perhaps what you would like to do is change the icon for either Word Pad and/or Rough Draft so that the appearance is the same in your folder.

You can go to Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types. Select the appropriate file extension and then the Advanced button. Select Change Icon and match to the appropriate selection.

Hope I don't misunderstand what you are trying to accomplish.

    You got it ,Steph.
Now I`ll try to be coherent enough to ask a question about this procedure.
I find the Icon for Wordpad, (extension .doc) and Rough Draft, (extension .rtf) and I think I see how to change one so it looks like the other. If I change the Word Pad icon to the Rough Draft icon will ALL my word pad doc`s open in rtf? It`s just fine if this is the case but If the wordpad doc opens in rtf doesn`t it look like a bunch of gibberish? And if this is the case can I restore every thing back to where it is now.
    Green, and gunshy!!
    Thanks a lot Dick

The document extension determines what app opens the document. The icon is strictly eye candy.

If the files you have 'saved' have the .doc extension... these were saved in Word (msOffice proprietary format), not WordPad. You could 're-save' (convert) your older lyric files to .rtf, then RoughDraft could open them. With the number of files you have that would become rather tedious unless someone knows of a program that would do a 'batch' conversion. Once these were converted to .rtf files the associated icon would probably change automatically if .rtf are associated with RoughDraft. (whew!!)

    You bet!
I understand all the above, batch conversion is the phrase ( and procedure ) I was looking for. It is easy to change them one at a time, but it doesn`t take long to get tired of it! I can copy from word pad, paste to rough draft, save to the lyrics folder, delete the original wordpad document, arrange Icons by name, and there`s that fine rtf.rough draft Icon right in line where it belongs. The problem is the line`s too long. I could be looking for lyrics and tunes while I`m changing these over.
In the past someone on this board explained to me how to remove the read only attribute from several files copied from a CD to my hard drive by highlighting all of them, right click on one of them>properties> and then uncheck the read only attribute. Seems to me there`d oughta be a way to do this with this project. Maybe I should just leave well enough alone?

    Thanks for all the chatter.
