You say your Motherboard is new.

Is the HD and the OS also new ?

Was the HD used on onother MB ?

Which one ? I assume that it is XP.

If it is a case of taking the HD from one MB and plugging it into a new MB then the problems you are getting my perfectly ligitament.

I have done the same thing TWICE. But I did not allow the machine to boot to the HD the first time. I booted to the floppy and reinstalled Windows over itself. I did this with 98SE twice. And the HD on this machine is on its 3rd machine and now has XP pro on it.

silent - Welcome to the Board :)

To add to BillyBob's post .....

You cannot simply replace a motherboard and install a hard drive with an existing install of Windows XP on it and expect it to work properly - the hardware has changed!.

Two things to do as you appear to be able to boot up occasionally - in this order ....

    1. Load the motherboard and chipset drivers from the motherboard CD if you have not alraedy done so.

    2. Go into the BIOS and set your boot order to CD-ROM > Floppy > Hard Drive. Boot from youe XP CD and make a Repair Installation

I see no mention of a repair install of XP in your posts.

Would you please outline exactly what you did when you replaced the motherboard and we may be able to help you.

If you changed the motherboard and hooked up the old drive with XP already loaded - and configured for your old motherboard - then you need to make a repair install of XP as outlined in my post above and then load the motherboard drivers from the CD which accompanied the board.

You will need to enter the BIOS to check/change the boot order to CD-ROM > floppy > hard drive if it not already set up that way. If you cannot do that just try a boot with the XP CD in the CD-ROM drive.

I suggest you check all the connections to the motherboard very carefully to ensure that they are correct. If all else fails replace the old motherboard - you will most likely still need to make a repair install of XP and load the motherboard drivers again - for that board.
