i was at cbs2 to watch a video and got a warning box saying that i had an unsupported browser and i must have i e 5 or netscape 7?. i have ns 8.0.1 and ie 6(whatever) and i was on the 801. there was a little thingie saying that i needed some plug-in so i hit d/l plug-ins and the only thing that came up was an unknown plug in, so being brave and aventuresome and nosy, i clicked on it ... and off we went to microsoft to windows media player! cool i like competers getting along but i have a perfectly good windows media player 9 on my computer already so do you have any idea of what is going on why the 801 wasnt recognized or the player?

    Hi jan,

sounds like the problem is the web computer, the program it's running. That's what a web page is, a program. suggest you send a copy of your post to the webmaster - just click on 'contact us', which should be somewhere on the page, and paste it into the message slot.

    Jan,

The web site video's require that you have ActiveX installed, which is a MS software component. With Netscape 7, you could install an ActiveX plugin, but the plugin doesn't work with Netscape 8. I tried the video's with IE engine enabled, but the video didn't completely load.

I would do as sparrow suggests and inform the webmaster...

    Jan,

I have been trying to get the video's on the cbs2.com web site, and have found that there is an ActiveX option which you can enable, if you have selected the IE engine for the page. You might try it and see if it makes a difference. To be able to select the option you must first designate that the page be viewed with the IE engine, which you can select in the lower left corner of the window. There is a dropdown menu next to the Firefox logo.

This does work on the Windows Update/Catalog page...

Did you lose cbs2? I, actually, did not know what it was (links are always appreciated). Could be NY city, Chicago or LA channel 2 (CBS seem s to have ch.2 or ch.3 anywhere in the country). But the player is the same. I would say, forget about NS8.0.1. I am using Firefox1.0.4 with the 1.0.3 plugin , and no problem, other than a warning that I can't use it unless I have the NS7.1 npmozax.dll file in the plugins folder.
I tried Deer Park alpha1, which won't take the plugin (Moz1.7.8 is in the same boat), but I can get to the much saner CBS news . There I am offered to play the video in either Real player or WMP format. It works like a charm. May be someone at CBS2 should be told the facts of life.

westside it is cbs2 in nyc (sorry about that and as far as the link goes i just learned day before yesterday how to do one( my grand daughter taught me) and i forgot. took ns801 again says same thing they dont recognize it, got the firefox and they said it needed activex plug-in and sent me to a place that had everything except activex. so if i want to watch a video,at least at cbs2 ill have to take the explorer(the internet). havent had it anyplace else and i think i will. thanks again i got to go make another post, see you. :)

    Jan,
the link 1.0.3 is, probably, the same as the one which you mention. Anyway, that Active X file allows me to view. It is not the CBS station, but rather some company which handles the streaming. So, I decided to contact them directly, and tell them that it would be nice to have more options, like the parent CBS.
I may never get a reply, but I like to bring to the attention of whoever works with websites, that their pages should be usable by 100% of the users.
As for NS8.0.1, I am refuse to use it. It is too weird.

hey westside think i got the ns801 fixed i can watch videos on fox news bbc cmt and vh1 so what do i need cbs2 for anyway..na! the only thing is i am not sure what i did spent most of sunday trying to get it going d/l umpteen dozen ns in all sizes and uninstalling them even got one from the uk that was interesting. but i let it go then went back to the 801, the one i got now. i,also d/l the windows media player 9 (got windows98se) and now i got two mp9s(the reason i think is because i renamed the first one,the player) had the 2wmps an winamp(uninstalled because it came up with file missing) and a real-real player (uninstalled and exchanged for the real alternative) and something in all that mess worked
bur your guess is as good as mine
    :D

Believe it or not I did redownlopad 8.01, and I never saw anything so smooth.
With cbs2, the LA variety, it will not play videos as Firefox, because it does not accept the Firefox plugin, which plays with no effort. But 8.01 will play videos as IE, as long as ActiveX is activated. If not it says that it is loading, loading. Good night! No clue given.
