I dont keep up with it like I used to but it seems like the faster processors and Ram have come to a major slowdown.

But then again, only a small number of people actually need a 3.6 gig processor.

For grins, I like to show people a nice little $499.00 Dell Deal system and then show em a video card that costs more than the whole system.

On the contrary, the hardware industry is moving very fast, And there have been numerous new developements in recent months. Intel recently released the 6xx sequence EM64T CPUs to compete with the AMD's Athlon 64 line, And both companies are preparing to introduce dual core desktop and workstation processors soon.

AMD has the Athlon 64 X2 line (Toledo Dual Core) coming up, with the following launch processors:

    4200+ 2.2ghz 512k L2 $500
    4400+ 2.2ghz 1M L2 $580
    4600+ 2.4ghz 512k L2 $800
    4800+ 2.4ghz 1mb L2 $1000

(note, cache sizes are for EACH CORE, so for example a 4600+ has 1mb TOTAL)

Intel also has the Pentium D line coming up, which I personally feel is a bit of an afterthought, the design is poor, as the cores use the FSB to communicate, and the heat output is immense.

AMD also recently released the Revision E chips with the Venice and San Diego cores.

Things are also getting hot on the video card end with Nvidia set to release the Geforce 7 (G70) series cards soon, and ATi with the R520 core. ATi also has their own version of multi GPU coming up to compete with Nvidias SLI.
