Denied access to Owner folder on the admin account. Help!

I'm getting the following message:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.HOME is not accessable.

Access is denied.

Why am I being denied access to my own folder? Is there a way to get around it, should I configure some settings? I've recently restored my computer to default settings and changed the computer name from HOME to BOB. Was that wrong? There is 40GB-worth of material in the folder, so any help is greatly appreciated.

 

Do you have XP Home or Pro? It sounds like you need to log into the real Admin account and try to gain access to your files from there. If Home, you must do this in safe mode. If Pro, hit control-alt-delete twice at the windows welcome screen and log is as the administrator with the admin password. This is not the same account as the user administrator. If you are trying to recover the files you lost when you did a factory restore, best of luck.

You need to Take Ownership of that folder to give yourself access. The linked article describes doing it on both XP-pro and XP-home systems.

BTW - always a good idea to tell us the version (home or pro) and the SP level when asking about XP issues.
