When booting up, I get an error message that the registry cannot load, and that I should run SCANREG to correct it. The computer then goes into safe mode, however, I get a gray screen that says 'safe mode' in each corner. No keyboard buttons work. Mouse does not work. Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not show that any programs are running.

I'm familiar with how to check the registry, but I cannot actually DO anything.

Unable to use home computer. What do I do?

Tried a boot disk. Got the "Non-system disk" error. Tried starting up with disk in place, and also inserting the disk at various times during the boot sequence.

Is there a key I should be pressing to tell it to boot from the A: drive?

Again, I have no ability to use any buttons once it launches into safe mode. Mouse works, but no keystrokes produce anything.

    Hi wishoosier,

Go into the BIOS as the system tries to boot - tap the delete or F11 key, or whatever your system requires - and set the primary boot device as the floppy.

    Regards - Charles

Great. I'll give that a try when I get home.
