whenever I am done surfing the net I always like to delete my history of visited web pages, cookies and temporary files with the internet options menu. However, when i go to the history icon on my toolbar the pages are still present. After manually deleting the entries one by one in every category I can get them to permanantely delete. Why does this take so much effort? Is there an easier way to do this?

By the way you guys have a terrific website, especially when compared to some of the other help forums I've seen.Keep up the good work. :)

OK, thanks for that - does CCleaner fit the bill? I use it occasionally - basically just the IE part.

If you set your history retention to zero days, it is supposed to delete all history files when you close all open browser windows.

Mine (XP SP1) does not quite do that but with days set to zero, if I use the tools~internet options and delete history then close the browser, history is empty when I open it again.

What OS version are you running and what IE version?

Did you try setting the history retention period to zero days?

Based on your problems getting on here, this is starting to point toward spyware problems. What spyware removal app(s) are you using?

Ok,not sure what you mean by the abb. OS but I have IE 6.0.2900.2180.
I have set my retention to zero previously and that's where it stays.
The spyware programs I have are as follows:spybot,ad-aware,spywareblaster,and AOL spyware protection.Aol software has no problem deleting history for itself but it still shows on IE.I dont even use IE for a browser but it bugs me that it doesn't function properly. When replying, please note that my computer experience is set at beginner,so I may not understand what may be considered common computer lingo. If there was a category lower than beginner I would have chosen it. :D

OH! IadHide5.DLL is part of a the backweb service that relates to Mcafee AV.
Spybot has been showing 59 entries of this and before I knew what it was I tried to delete it and got all sorts of errors.Just thought I would share that info.

FYI - OS is the commonly used abbreviation for Operating System.

The Operating System here is Windows (there are others) and there are different versions around. It terms of age they are ....

    Windows 95
Windows 98 - First and Second Editions
    Windows Me - Millenium
Windows XP > Windows XP SP1 > Windows XP SP2, which is the current version. (SP stands for Service Pack)
Not necessarily associated with McAfee - according to one of our security gurus Logitec or Kodak are other candidates.
Although you are using AOL you are using IE under the skin I suspect - AOL is known to be 'difficult' in some respects and how it interacts with IE I really don't know as I have never, and will never use AOL.

I don't know how effective the AOL spyware protection is, but I would sugest using Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta (freeware) which constantly monitors your PC and scans/updates automatically.

FWIW my sister insists on using AOL so I am familiar with it :) and dislike the multiple windows and all the candy floss. Simple tasks like sending/receiving/filing email are much easier and more logical in OE and I prefer IE neat - without the AOL add ons. Over here in the UK I am with BT (British Telecom) Yahoo and am well satisfied and have used Norton Antivirus + Kerio Personal Firewall for years without any problems in conjunction with other security based software.

The one aspect of AOL that I do like is the delightful Johanna Lumley - such a s**y voice, but maybe you have another voice over your side?
