I have 10 computers running Windows 200 Pro. Recently one has decided not to boot up. Everything goes well until it gets to "Loading Personal Settings ". It stops at this screen and will not continue. The system is not frozen, only in limbo. The hard drive appears to be looking in vain for files. Anyone have a clue what to do to get me out of limbo?

Always, in a situation like this, try to start up in 'safe mode'. Hit 'F8' while the bar at the bottom of the screen is filling, before it gets to the win 2000 screen.

If it will boot in safe mode re-start and try normal boot again. If it still fails go back to safe mode and check device manager for things like conflicts, anything showing an ! or ?.

Also, did you install anything new that is not on the other systems before the boot failures started?

    Still Stuck in Tallahassee

I have tried that but I can't get it to boot in Safe Mode either. Sticks at the same place "loading personal settings ".

Tried to do a repair with the orginal CD-ROM from Microsoft.
    Made no difference.

Boot from the 2K CD to the recovery console. Try chkdsk /r.
