When I delete the Temporary Internet Files via MIE/Tools/Internet Options/ "Temporary Internet Files" delete then I can no longer access my FAVOURITES offline.

    Is this normal behaviour??????????????

I would say yes roy66 , they are what Favorites & History refer back to , when offline .

I use Cache Sentry & set it at 30mb , here it is if you are interested in retaining some of your temp internet files .

    http://www.mindspring.com/~dpoch/enigmatic/cachesentry.html

This is a program that fixes serious bugs in the Internet Explorer cache manager (versions 3.0 on up through and including Internet Explorer for Windows XP, and IE6). This program basically takes over the job of managing the cache from Internet Explorer, and the result is your web browsing session will be more enjoyable. CacheSentry isn't like those "web acceleration"
programs that hook into IE and attempt to make guesses about your browsing habits. CacheSentry simply does a better job of removing files from the cache, and fixes a few other bugs present in most versions of Internet Explorer.

roy66--I would not expect you would lose your Favourites after deleting Temporary Internet Files. See if you still have a C:\Windows\Favorites folder.
If yes, open it, just to check that all your Favourites are there. Since Favourites are stored in a folder, being on or offline has nothing to do with ability to access.
How are you trying to access Favourites? (It can be done several ways, among which from the Menubar, from the Toolbar (with icon, or just opening the folder).
If you no longer have a C:\Windows|Favorites folder, you must have accidentally deleted or moved it in some other fashion--not by deleting TIF. Look in the Recycle Bin. If there, click Restore. If not there, do a search on Favourites (or Favorites) from Start|Find|Files or Folders). If not anywhere on PC, I think you have lost it and must recreate.
An outside chance is to do a scanreg /restore command from DOS. Ask if you need help.

When deleting files (under Tools - Internet Options - General) an option is presented asking whether offline content is to be deleted.

    THANKYOU.

However, to me it would seem that each of you have offered two entirely different answers to my problem.

Because I do lose "offline" usage when I empty the Temporary Internet Files I would be more inclined to accept this problem to be a cache/cookie problem as indicated by jmatt.

However, it does not seem logical to have a system that encourages you on the one hand to utilise "offline" and on the other hand instruct you to delete what is most probably your cache entry to that "offline" content.

Looks like I'd best leave the Temporary Internet Files be.

Now as for Temorary Internet Folder and content....A/O.K. all intact and yes when online I have access to any of my FAVOURITES.

SO....Do we still have a mystery here? as there MUST BE a definite solution.

    Don't leave me YET.

    Thanks again

roy66--No conflict betwen me and jmatt. I misunderstood what you wanted. You want to access the webpages you have downloaded (perhaps using right click on a Favourite) using Make Available Offline. I was telling you how to access Favourites (website URL's), themselves.
I seldom use Make Available Offline. I understand it is a little flaky even in the best situation. Indeed, I found that I usually got only one chance to access to such a file and then I could no longer access it.
One way around it is to save the webpage using File\Save As (save as a Web Archive--.mht extension). That puts the saved website somewhere other than TIF. I remember seeing someone offer a better way, but cannot remember. If I come across it, I will let you know.

    Thanks Jim .
You are right , no conflict , we are all just throwing ideas around .
As long as nobody gets dogmatic or rude to the point , that their way is right & the others are wrong , everything goes along smoothly .

    John .

    Thanks Jim,

You must be an early weekend riser.

It just goes to show that one can be misunderstood quite easily so a response such as I gave ought to be encouraged to help clarify the situation.

It is 10:15 am here Sunday and nice sunny and fresh.

Trust you have a great weekend

    roy
