    NS 8 - Passwords.....

    XP HOME - FF 1.0.4 - NS 8 (final)
    Profiles in default locations

NS 8 seems to store Passwords in active Profile folder in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Netscape\NSB\Profiles\qiaxqdbs.jim_ns8\c0g1n3n5.r7u

In my FF profile I used <number.s> for passwords ( from Moz profile )and it works well.

Copying to NS profile, rename either or both to match and nothing shows.

If I try to Import passwords from FF - I am not presented with any choice as to what profile to import from. Nothing is imported....

    any assistance appreciated.

    regards:captjlddavis

    captjlddavis,

When I used the Import option, I chose Firefox 1.0, and my only option was Cookies?

Next, I chose Netscape 6,7, or Mozilla and selected Passwords. Same results as you have, not give a Profile, and of course no Passwords were imported. I am going to give feedback on this, and also check the Netscape secnews, and see if others are reporting the same problem.

    James,

Did you note in the EULA that a media player, as well as AIM was also installed? I'm curious about the media player, and wonder if you have tried using it?

Media Player? I was completely unaware of this. I'll play around with it later this evening and see what I can find out. Frankly, I really like this browser BUT I'm having a number of difficulties although I've solved a few already. My latest problem is with it remembering passwords... particularly for Yahoo's personalized homepage. I've checked several things in my cookies settings and checked Yahoo's Remember Me box after inserting my password but it still forgets when I log off and back on again. Mysterious, Ramona! (not you.. .the browser! lol)

    James,

On your password problem. I had the same thing happen to me, and it was most annoying! However, I looked again at my "Privacy" settings for cookies, and passwords, and I did NOT elect to have them deleted on exit from Netscape. When looking a bit more closely, I discovered at the top of the Privacy settings, there is a setting for "Clear my tracks" which was enabled. Once I disabled that setting my passwords were retained.

Hope this helps you, as it did me!

    You're most welcome James!

I'm curious as to whether or not you had the setting enabled?

I have exactly the same problem with Yahoo not remembering either username or password, even when I don't close the browser (Firefox), but merely sign out. However, I can't find a setting similar to Netscape's "Clear my tracks" in FF's Privacy options. Have I missed something?

I don't think There is a comparable UI setting .....( "Clear my tracks" )
    in FF.

Some pages are coded NOT to remember passwords ( yahoo I believe is one of them)

    Please look at: SquareFree

    Remember Passwords bookmarklet

    Read and follow instructions.

Seems to work in FF 1.0.4 and also in NS8 regardless of privacy setting in NS8 -

The Privacy setting in NS8 is very confusing to me.....

Of course I could be wrong.

    regards:captjlddavis

    NS8 Functions a little differently.

If that's the case, I have to wonder why there's a checkbox for "Remember my ID on this computer" on the page.

All of that was about as clear as mud! Finally, totally confused, I bookmarked the link to the "remember password" bookmarklet and tried it on the Yahoo Mail page ... whatta ya know?! It worked! :D Now why couldn't they just have said to do that in the first place?

Going back to Ramona's question, the AOLMedia display works more or less like an extention, but it is nowhere to be found, and it does not work. I tried videos from the Netscape homepage, and I got several attempt to connect, then the player, and all I saw was the name of the song, and artists name. After a while I am sent back to install, etc. Audios bring up the same interface, but absolutely no action. I tried again today, and I will have to clean up some mess on the hard drive. I actually can't find any evidence of installation.
As for the rest of the issues, it is confusing at best. I will leave it at that for now.

    JSS..

Glad you got it to work...

    As I mentioned: Read the instructions;

More details if you read the Details section...

I saw this workaround on another Forum for the Yahoo login problem:

If already signed in, first sign out of http://my.yahoo.com/ at the top, where it says: Welcome, <username> [ Sign Out, My Account ]

Once signed out, return to my.yahoo.com but don't sign in at the top, where it shows, Sign In New User? Sign Up

Look on the right side of the page, where there is a yellow sign in box which says: "To access My Yahoo.... Sign in to Yahoo...." Use this sign in box instead.

P.S. This was originally suggested for Netscape 8.0.1, but should also work in Firefox.

Cap'n, I neglected to thank you for pointing out the site. :)

I don't use a Bookmarks Toolbar, and never have. If the instructions had just said to bookmark the link, I wouldn't have had a problem (nor did I ... finally).

Re: the details section ... IMO, it's unnecessarily wordy and confusing. I think the author could have shortened it to:
Some sites, including many banks and a few other sites such as Yahoo Mail and Microsoft Passport, tell browsers not to remember passwords for visitors using autocomplete= "off ". This bookmarklet makes the browser ignore autocomplete= "off" temporarily.

Use this bookmarklet just before submitting the form with your password in it. When you submit the form, your browser should offer to remember the password.
Stated that way, I think it makes more sense than as written.

One good turn deserves another, though. If some of FF's menus bug you as much as they do me (why New Window appears before New Tab on the File menu, and Open Link in New Window before Open Link in New Tab on a link context menu in a browser that promotes tabbed browsing is something I fail to understand, even though those are supposed to be corrected before or in version 2.0 ... see Firefox:2.0 Tabbed Browsing).

Fortunately, there's Menu Editor. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth a try. It lets you edit menus in both Firefox and Thunderbird to your heart's content.

RATS! I'm back to the Yahoo won't recognize my password silliness. I click on the Webmail which I've configured for Yahoo mail and it will not recognize my password. Strange that it recognized it an hour ago.

I log off and re-enter with Firefox and there are no problems entering the Yahoo mail site.

This sort of inconsistency is quite frustrating. I'm sure there is a workaround but it does tax your patience. :(

    James,

I'm sure you've tried the workaround from the other Forum, and you've checked your settings to ensure that the global setting isn't engaged?

I'll check the Netscape Browser Forum, and Netscape 8 NG again, to see if others are having the problems you describe with Yahoo.

    James,

    Sorry, I am totally confused.

You say "webmail" in NS ?
Are you talking about the "webmail" icon WITHIN the NS Program OR are you talking about the "webmail" from your Yahoo Home Page.....

I ask because you said something about
Sorry for the inconvenience, I just don't follow what you are trying to do.

    regards:captjlddavis

    James,

I set up myrealbox.com webmail in 8.0.1, and so far no problems. I have clicked on the Webmail Tab several times, and accessed both my Netscape and MyRealBox Webmail accounts.

The Mail Account Icon works perfectly also, and brings up Thunderbird to both read, and write Mail.

I would start from scratch on the Webmail, this time ensuring that you have the correct links for both the login and the address book pages. However, if it did work once, that probably doesn't enter into the equation.

Also delete your Yahoo cookie, in the event it might be corrupt.
