    Hi all:

This is my first post so I hope I don't ***** it up.

I just built a new P4 2.0 ghz and want to put WinXP on it. Right now my XP license is on my PIII 450 mhz. What I want to do is reinstall my PIII with Win2k and install my P4 with WinXP.

My question is how is the product activation going to work? Can anybody tell me the process? I know it's going to tell me that I have to reactivate as I am putting the licence on a new computer.

Are there any phone numbers that I can call before I install on the P4 or will I have to wait until the actual install?

    Thanks in advance,

    XP activation.

I had an XP professional licencse on a K62-350 pc in my basement. I rebuilt the system with a new mboard, hard drive, video card etc. Essentially a new system. Installed XP Professional on the new system. Wouldn't activate. The installation screen provided a 20? digit key and a toll free number to call.

I called and the lady said it showed that my XP Professional was already on another computer. Explained that I had rebuilt the computer with new components and that it wasn't present on more than one system. She gave me a new activation key and I was on my way. Whole process took about five minutes.

Probably the least frustrating experience I have had with MS to date.
