    Good morning, Jim!
Both my Enable Java and Enable JavaScript boxed are checked.
Would you mind taking a look at my other post here from this morning regarding Java, and give me an opinion on that one?

    Hi Rebecca,

I'm not sure what you're referring to, as I thought I addressed the Java issue. If Firefox will install JRE, go ahead and do it. I usually download programs like that and install them externally, for a couple of reasons:
I want an archival copy of everything running on my computer, if possible.

A program like JRE is used by programs other than Firefox ... IE immediately comes to mind.

Like you, I prefer to download programs and install them externally, which is why I'm "worrying" about all that old Sun Java stuff still in existence on my computer. Are you saying that as long as there's no reference to Sun Java in my Add/Remove Programs, I'm safe to go ahead an install the new version, even with all that old Java/Sun stuff still there?
Which brings me to my next question: if I install the latest version of Java manually, will I have to do anything "extra" in order to get it to work with FF, or will it make the necessary connections all by itself?

    Hi Rebecca,

Hmmm, I don't think I said that, but now that you've brought it up, Add/Remove tends to leave a lot of detritus behind on your computer. When it tells you that it can't remove everything, and that some things must be removed manually, it's usually referring to the program folder. That's a simple deletion, but there are almost always registry entries left behind, as well. That's why I suggested using a program like RegSeeker to search for those entries and remove them. (Not the "Clean Registry" function, but the "Search Registry" one.)

It's been awhile since I installed JRE, but I think the installation program asks which browsers you want to use it with ... I think I just checked all of them. You've already made the necessary settings in FF, but in IE check Tools > Internet Options > Advanced to make sure that the box under Java (Sun) is checked.

Many thanks, Jim! When I get home from work tonight, I'll run the new version of RegSeeker (I ran Sun Java through "Find in Registry" I deleted the resulting entries in March - thus the RegSeeker backup for Java on my computer) and see if it comes up with anything new, and then try installing the new version of Java. I'll let you know how it goes!

I am giving up on this.
I made no change whatever, and I, first, was able to see the images with the 1.8b2 nightly (probably the same type mentioned earlier by JS... But after closing it, and opening it, I could see the images with FF1.0.4 (the nightly is not installed, and I have separate profiles). And, Macromedia errors, and nothing else, not even the text, with the other browser. But, I am in NS7.2, and was a few minutes ago in Mozilla1.7.8, and everything looks ok, except for the one item, which JS... said was removed. I have the broken link as before.
I have no evidence that Java is required (no coffee cup seen).

Nope, I'm still using the 1.0.4 Aviary nightlies, which use Gecko 1.7.8. The Gecko 1.8b2 Trunk builds have had a bug that (for me) prevents the Bookmarks menu from opening completely until the Bookmarks Manager has been opened and closed. I'm waiting for FF 1.1.

Well I'll be danged! I've been sitting here trying to figure out how to get rid of the old version of RegSeeker before installing the new one, so that I can get rid of any old entries for the old version of Sun Java before installing the new version of that, and while twiddling my thumbs over those two things, I thought I'd give the infamous website another shot. Lo and behold, all but two images loaded this time [the exceptions being Robert Bateman's "Bald Eagle Flying" (which was mentioned by a few others here as well), and his "Vigilance" (which no one else has mentioned having trouble with)].
Haven't made a single change to my system yet, so it ain't due to anything I did to resolve the problem! Apparently, though, my problem HAS been resolved, so thanks to everyone for the help, and I'll consider this case closed! :)

    Hi Rebecca,

RegSeeker is a NON-installed program ... it runs from the executable in its own folder. Just delete the folder and unzip the new version to the same parent folder.

BTW, "Vigilance" doesn't appear for me, either but, as I recall, it wasn't there yesterday. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be) his panel ended with "Thinking Like A Mountain ".

Glad to hear that things are finally working, for whatever reason.
