My laptop comes from the company I worked for until four years ago. There, we used Outlook 2000 to get emails off the Microsoft Exchange Server. I've got a file of old emails from that I want to access.

When I try to open Outlook 2000, I get a message saying "Microsoft Exchange Server: You can connect to the server using the network, or work offline and use dial-up networking."

Whether I choose "connect" or "work offline ", I soon get the next message: "Microsoft Outlook: Unable to open the Outlook window. Before you can use this offline folder file, you must connect to your Microsoft Exchange Server with the current profile and synchronize your files at least once." At that point, my only choice is "OK ", which kicks me out of Outlook.

I'm running Outlook 2000 on Windows 98 on an IBM ThinkPad 600E.

Thought there was something on this on this forum before, but cannot find anything now.

There is a good chance that the emails you want are on the exchange server and not stored locally on the laptop.

You could try a repair install of Office and if that fails, uninstall and reinstall from the beginning.
