My wife has an Nec computer with a restore disk that has seen better days. Due to the scratches on it ,it will not boot off the restore disk. I copied the disk and it worked like new.Now she worries because if the old one wouldn't work, the copy shouldn't either.
Can anyone here explain how this copy is as good as the original?
Help please. She's almost paranoid about this.

Is it possible to explain how the scratches in the old one are not on the copy and thus it is like new?

Good point. But her question is: if it won't read the CD to boot the machine, how can it read the CD to copy?

I may have answered my own question. Is it because when it's booting,it's only using basic drivers?
I never questioned this before. I just accepted the fact that it did work.

Some (maybe all) burning programs have "error correction ". An error is reread many times to read the data correctly. This will overcome light scratches, but not deep ones. It also helps to set the disk Read speed very low.
