Running XP Home, OE6 Dialup connection,

Maybe I`m trying to send a Directory. I`ll describe it.
I have a Folder Icon marked My story, Inside it I have many folder icons marked with chapter names.
Inside each one of these folders are text documents.
Totals about 1.5 MB for the whole shooting match.
How can I email this to my :D rotten kids, grandkids and great grand kids ?

You'll need to put the contents of the folder into a zip file. XP has that capability built in.

Right click on the folder, hover the cursor over "Send to..," left click on "Compressed (Zipped) folder." It will appear as if nothing is happening but it will make a zip file with the same name as the folder. If your My Story folder is a subfolder of My Documents, the "my story.zip" file will be in the My Documents folder.

Then just attach the zip file to your email.

Note: Check the size of the zipped file before you send it. Keep in mind that if any of the recipients are on a dialup connection, downloading one meg can take as long as 45 minutes.

    I`ll do it.
Out here in flyover country where Dial up is pretty common I figure if I can suffer through the time it takes to upload it they can wait, too.

Piece of cake, Miz. I`ve used winzip on 95 and 98 . XP makes it easy.
    Thanks again,

    You're welcome, glad to help.

I also live in flyover country (southwest Kansas) just outside a town of 900 people, in a 983 square mile county with a total population of 2400 which is about as rural as it gets and still have a paved highway. We're served by an independent telco co-op and we've had DSL for four years. They even provide DSL several miles outside the usual three mile limit (thanks to a hefty investment in boosting equipment) so I know it can be done.

On the other hand, the one town in the northern part of the county is served by Southwestern Bell and they're still stuck with dialup. Hmmm...maybe the big telcos haven't figured out how it's done. ;)
