Need help with new 2000 OS! When the computer is turned on, it comes up with my background and tells me to login. Well, my son (12) set us up with a password and login name. After calling our internet service provider to change account info, we decided to change our login info to match the internet login. Now, it brings up the login place, but will not let us log in. Also, will not give us any options for changing it. on the screen it just shows the login area. No icons or start menu button on the screen. How do I change this? Please I really need help. my son is driving me nuts. He does alot of his research (school) on line. Thanks everyone!!

I can change the password myself. I just need to know how to get to that point. I cant even get my windows start button on the bottom of the screen. I apologize for not obeying the rules. I did read them, but didnt think it applied to this case. I just want to get my icons on my screen and my start button!

Just to make sure I'm clear, are you seeing a screen similar to the picture below? If so, putting in any valid username and the associated password should allow you to log on. It sounds like you had one that worked and made some changes but in that case, the one that did work should still work.

Yes, newt thats it. But the prob. is that we cant even get straight on what it was. We have tried the same thing several different ways and just cant get it to hit. (I know thats dumb, but we arent computer genius's) what do I do? No, I'm not a bad guy, just a mother trying to get this thing going. I'll be really grateful for any advice!! When i click on options, it doesnt give me any.
ps. I googled to find this site and I've browsed around and love it!!!! You guys offer a great service!!! Alot of this stuff is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY over my head, but I have picked up some good stuff for my work computer! It is internal error on my IE and the computer dies on me. (illegal error), but I'll worry you guys about that another time.

When the operating system was installed, an account named Administrator was created. Lots of times people will never put a password on that account so you could try typing it in and leaving the password blank. Could work. Otherwise, you have a major problem.

The "Options" button is only active if you have alternative places you can connect to - business network with at least one Domain (or workgroup maybe). Single home machine and it shouldn't offer you any options.
