Was doing some installing in XP home the other day. After I was finished with the install I went into explorer to take a look at what else was on the cd. I could not look at the contents on the drive. I could go to a DOS prompt and view it just fine. Tried this on several CD's and had the same problem. Any ideas

Wow, I just knew I get fast response here with so much knowledge in this site. Maybe my post was not understood. When I go to the windows explorer and click on a cd nothing happnes. No files are there to view. But if I go do dos I can view with no problem.

Probably would have gotten a quicker answer in the Hardware secton. OTOH, hard to know with this sort of thing if you are dealing with HW or SW issues.

Or maybe lots of the regulars are getting ready for a long weekend.

Two suggestions and hopefully one or both will help you out.

Open up your computer and set your cd rom jumpers as slave instead of master. For some strange reason it often works (what I call a "voodoo" fix cause I have no idea why it does any good. If it's the only cdrom in the computer take off the jumpers all together.

Go to control panel, "sound, speech and audio devices ", "sound and audio devices ", "hardware ",select you dvd drive and click "properties ", then under the properties tab, uncheck the digital audio box if checked.

Well it's the only drive and it has all the jumpers removed. It is not a dvd drive so I dont have thoes properties. Have you seen this before? What is strange is that I can install programs with this CD just cant explorer them.
