LXBSppls.exe is called up from the WIN.INI file but I don't have it on my hard disk.

I do not have the dedicated Win 98 CD as Compaq did not supply it.

I tried running SFC to locate the file in the Windows\Options\CABS but it failed to find it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks . . . Rick

    Hi RickSoCal,
You may have noticed we've been zapped to the security forum from the win98 forum. Read the sticky (note/faq titled "WELCOME ") pinned to the top of the this forum and follow the directions. You've been infested or picked up critter. Virus/malware/addware any combination is possible. LXBSppls.exe is not a legitimate file but one of the executables for some form of the Virus/malware/addware.

Someone will be along to help guide along the way.

    Deleted . . .

Well, I can't find the Welcome at the top of the screen, nor the sticky note thereto attached.

I did perform a search in the Win 98 section before I posted this message.

It stands to reason that if I was asking about the file, it's obvious that I wouldn't know that it is a security rather than a WIN 98 file.

    I have deleted it.

It does not show up on my hard drive any longer.

Thanks for your direction and information.

    Oh . . . Goddez1 . . . your picture is very nice!. Pardon me for saying.

    thanks again . . . Rick

    Hi Rick,
And thanks for the compliment. I don't mind it at all. :)

Here's a link to the sticky I previously mentioned:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=37074

I guess I should have made it clear that the link is at the top of this forums page, viewable, when you are not inside a post. If you had looked for it while reading this you would not see it. This forum room is called Removing Spyware & Viruses. I know it may be a little confusing since your original post is in the win98 forum. You may have noticed the white arrow on it. This indicates that the boards admin has redirected your post to the correct forum room, for the topic or problem you have. If you click on your link in the win98 forum you will wind up here. Or you can just go directly to the Removing Spyware & Viruses and find your post (with a red arrow) here.

I hope you did not delete the win.ini! In any case I suspect you will find out that any deletion you did will come back. Please read the sticky and follow directions. Getting rid of this is not going to be that simple. Links and sublinks along with directions are included. Besides, at this point you can't be sure what you have or how many varieties of infections you may be suffering from. You need to clean any virus, malware, trojans or adware critters off of your machine in the proper manner. Deleting one file is not going to do it.
