My antivirus is NOD32 which I was so pleased with on my home system that we now use it as our corporate antivirus solution. Why? I had McAfee for a year and paid the sub to renew. About a month later it stopped updating. When I contacted them they told me to upgrade to the later version but would not return my unused 11 months update value. So, as I had to purchase again I thoroughly researched what was out there and selected NOD32. Then bought it during the trial period. I threw out Norton from the corporate clients, (resource hungry, not friendly enough to other applications) and installed NOD there also 18 licences. Very happy now. Still adding NOD for new users.

Using Zone Alarm Pro (tried other firewalls, and still do at times, but always come back to ZA). Also have Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D. Now seeking the most appropriate anti-trojan solution. Have seen a few so far but still searching.

EmsiSoft (http://www.emsisoft.com/en) has a free Trojan scanner/removal tool (a-squared Free) or a pay version w/realtime protection. (I've also tried the "Ewido Security Suite ", but the pay version slowed my sys to a crawl.)

?: Is anyone using AntiVirPE? (I'ld sure appreciate some comments on it if you can spare the time.)

in regards to geri and avast. i have used avast on many xp machines and older machines and it seems like a good virus software and besides its free. have not tried the full version. some of my clients dont want to spend money on virus protection or firewall so i usually install avast and either zonealarm free or sygate. nobody has ever called back with any problems so far.

just installed zonealarm internet security and found it as easy to work with as the firewall by itself. others i have used are trendmicro internet security and ez armor and those 3 seem to be the best. am leaning toward za totally cuz if they do antivirus as well as they do firewall then its a no brainer.

i also install always spybot, spywareblaster and ad-aware and in the couple hundred machines these have been installed on no one has ever had another bug get them. i also use these apps. and everytime i run them nothing has gotten by.

That's one of the big pluses for Etrust. The yearly subscription price also includes the newest version of the software. Others force you to purchace the newer versions seperatly when needed. In my opinion it's just a not so sneaky way of getting you to purchase new software and to line their pockets with more money. I've been an Etrust user ever since I don't know when. Possibly since the day Al Gore invented the internet. :) My experience with it has been the same as noadfear's. Stable, non intrusive and does what it's supposed to do. When it updates I don't even know it's done it (mines set for once every 24 hours).

    Just my two cents worth.

I was just glancing through this post and I see several references to un-installing Symantec products as they do a VERY POOR job on their own.

When un-installing a miss-belhaving Symantec product ( or any other one really ) it is ALMOST A MUST to run RegSeeger to clean out the LEFTOVERS in the Registry.

Not only that but it is a good idea to first do a MANUAL search of the files on the HD and DELETE any and all folders referring to Norton or Symantec. And then run RegSeeger.

At one time I even had to use the above ideas TWICE. Once before and once after restarting Windows to get rid of it all.

And again. Sometimes it pays to do this with ANY software uninstall. Especially any mis-behaving stuff.

You install through it and uninstall through it.

I wouldn't do without this now.

    Anti-Trojans

Re-tried "Ewido Security Suite" (http://www.ewido.net/en) & it's working fine this time around. Both Anti-Trojan prgs have found items missed by my other security tools (Kaspersky, RAV, Spybot, AdAware, MSAntiSpy, etc.).

(charlesvar: Thanx for the info on "TotalUninstall" - I've tried a few similar prgs, but this appears to be the best by far!)

(Still hoping for some user info on "AntiVirPE ".)

    Hello -User-

When you want to uninstall something, first go thru the normal Add/Remove routine if it exists, then, whether the app's uninstall.exe exists or not, use TU which will go after the leftover bits.

When you install thru it, after the install routine by the new app, even if the new install doesn't require it, re-boot anyway - TU will come back and sit in the tray waiting for you to tell it that the install is finished - then it will complete the "after" picture of the system changes.

    Regards - Charles

    Uninstalling Norton

Charlesvar or anyone with related info:

I came across this post. I am due to renew my Norton SystemWorks, but think I may go with eTrust thanks to different opinions I am getting from this post. Am I understanding the above quote correctly in that if I uninstall my current Norton, TU will go after leftover files? I really do not know, nor do I have RegSeeker. Also, I like the GO BACK that comes with SystemWorks (needed to use a couple of times). Can I buy that separately?

I am running Win 2000 pro and also use ZA. (I'm also a beginner when it comes to these matters!)

    Thanks!

    Jeane

    Uninstalling Norton

    Hi Jeane!

I've not used TU, but my understanding, like yours, is that it will go after anything the uninstall leaves behind.
Yes, you can purchase GoBack as a stand-alone product, and may even qualify for an "upgrade discount" since you have another product where you can send the old CD or the title page from the manual; that ought to save you $30 or so.
For myself, I've been using RegistryFix version 3.0, and have been very happy with the results!
    Wishing you happy computing,
    Dave H

BTW, I received a call from a Symantec customer service specialist last week--they are refunding me the full retail price of SystemWorks 2005 and SystemWorks 2005 Premier! :)

gotta tell you all that i have used ez armor on a couple machine for clients and its okay but i have found an even better one in my opinion. that being bitdefender both the standard or the professional. its a great product and i highly recommend it. can get at saveateagle.com or hermanstreet.com. again best one i've tested and used so far. trendmicro is also very good.

    Hi Jeane,

Sorry for the late response, been away over the weekend.

Am I understanding the above quote correctly in that if I uninstall my current Norton, TU will go after leftover files?
Yes, TU will go after any leftovers that an application's uninstall leaves behind provided that you of course installed the app thru it to begin with.

    FYI, RegSeeker v1.45 http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
