XP home to XP pro network help

    hi all im being a bit thick at the moment but i cant get my xp home laptop and xp pro desktop to net work useing justa crossover cable. :( does any one know of a site or link to a walk through talk through of how to do it????

    1. What is not working? Can the PCs communicate? What about IP addresses?
    2. Firewalls?
    3. Are you sure it is a cross-over cable, not straight patch cable?
    4. Is File & Print Sharing turned on?

    yes set up network ok both see each other but cant acsess the files file and print servers turned on firewalls ok set to loest setting and acsess alowed both ways

    Please help us so we can better understand what is happening. The more details you give, the more likely it is that someone can help.

    Tell us how you have set up your network, how you're trying to connect to other computers, and what exactly happens when you do it. Include the complete text of all error messages.

    Are there any third party firewalls or using the Windows XP Firewall? If so, what firewall program are you using?

    What is the IP address of the computers? Open the command prompt and type ipconfig/all. Include the ipconfig results so we can see the results for both computers.
