    Hey guys:
I am new here, and here is my first question:
There is a user's my document redirection, and its target folder is server\\%username%,the problem is it should redirect to the user log on, but it does not. It just creates a folder called %username% on the server, so it will not properly redirect to its real folder, but the folder named %username%. All the other people's target folders are just their real name folders not %username%
I have never met this kind of situation before.
    Someone can help?
    It will be very appreciated.

The client OS is Windows 2000? (Win98 doesn't have a username variable by default).

What is the value of USERNAME when you type SET at a cmd prompt on the client machine?

Do you mean that this particular user has a logon name of username?

no,this user had his own log on name
but in his my documents property, its redirect target folder is \\server\%username%, the problem is this computer just create a folder called %username%, so the real folder can not be properly redirectted.

if you go to a command prompt and type set what does it show in the USERNAME=

or if you type %username% itself in the command prompt is should say something to the effect
'mrorange' is not recognized as an internal or external command.......
    :D

I think I understand what you're saying, Is this a PC on a domain?

For instance, in our domain, the user logon is J.Doe but his username is John Doe.

So... on the server he is pointing to the folder \\server\John Doe and not \\server\J.Doe. Is that correct?

    not really
ok,let me tell the story again.
    For example
    the user is jimmy
when you type set command everything looks fine
and in my document properties,it shows the target folder location is \\server\users\%username%
but the thing is my document is not pointing correctly to folder called jimmy on the server, but creating a folder called username and pointing to this folder.
    is this clear enough?

Ahh okay, I see what you're saying now.

You're trying to use the system variable %USERNAME% to create the directory path but instead it is creating a folder called USERNAME.

What happens when you do this?

"if you go to a command prompt and type set what does it show in the USERNAME=

or if you type %username% itself in the command prompt is should say something to the effect
'mrorange' is not recognized as an internal or external command....... "
