I am retired now, but, although my tech people discouraged anyone from using NS, Moz, or anything like that (for support reasons), I did it all along.
I was treating Netscape as any other program, and, I never had a problem.

It may depend on the way that you are configuring your notebook, although I don't know what it means. For me LAN was just like broadband, and, although it was recommended that I use a Proxy (for virus scanning), I did not.

Somehow I disabled the office virus scanning, and I had my own AV program, which was working much better than the internal one, and I was connecting directly to the Internet. Does this ring any bells?

    Meaning of configuring

What I mean is that I have to set the LAN utility software , network connection and internet connection module in the control panel as prescribed by the office requirements.

If you set up, you will have no choice, but, probably create will give you some choice. I know that if I set, I will no choice outside the Microsoft programs.
I am unfamiliar with your office rules, and may be some tech people at your place may help.
