System: Dell 3000 with Windows XP and SP2. OE6. IE6. Just a couple of days ago to send an e-mail attachment from Word suddenly became via Outlook. And I have to use extra clicks to access OE. But I don't want to use Outlook either in or out. Want to use OE6 as I have been. Tried Tools>Accounts and Tools>Options, but could not see how to make OE 6 my preference, both in and out.
    Appreciate any assistance.
    Thanks. From a geezer.

I assume you have some version of Office installed? Sounds like you have tried Tools > Internet Options > Programs?

No idea why Outlook suddenly took over, but one way round this would be to uninstall Outlook if you do not use it ....

Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > MS Office > Change > Add or Remove features.

Some updates to Office through Office Update will set Outlook as the default email client.

In Outlook go to Tools > Options > "the right-most tab" (whatever it's named in english - miscellaneous?) and uncheck the box to use Outlook as standard.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options > Programs and make sure that Outlook Express is chosen as email client.

Outlook substituted for OE. A thank you.

Thank you ever so much. Followed directions. Worked like a charm. And, you are correct, I had downloaded a patch from Microsoft. So this switch came with it. Now I shall remember where to fix.
    Best wishes. A geezer.
