I have fixed the other issue but now am trying to get it to connect to the internet and it won't. this was the main issue with my friend in the first place. can someone tell me what boxes to check etc? I would really appreciate it, I'm ready to toss it!

Oh yeah, it's going to be a Cable/Lan connection

    Thanks!!!!

If your going through a router both the modem and router must have the same IP. First step would to be install the modem direct. Then go to start run. type in cmd and <enter> then type ipconfig at the promptand <enter>. Write down the default ip and exit the dos window.

Now connect the router and do the same. If the default ip isn't the same you will have to change it. You should be able to access the router settings by opening an IE window and typing http://the numbers for the router default ip with the dots <enter>

Of course if your not using a router then this post is useless. Come back with info.
